Caring for your Bilum

Each bilum is carefully handmade and should be treated with gentle care to help preserve its beauty and shape over time.

Bilums made from high-quality acrylic and wool yarns can be gently hand washed in cold or lukewarm water using a mild detergent. After washing, reshape your bilum and allow it to dry naturally in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid tumble drying, harsh chemicals, or direct heat, as this may damage the fibres.

Natural fibre bilums require extra care due to the delicate nature of the materials. Spot cleaning is recommended where possible, or gently hand wash in cold water if needed. Avoid soaking, scrubbing, or wringing the fibres, and allow the bilum to dry naturally away from direct sunlight.

As every bilum is handmade, slight softening, stretching, or natural changes in texture may occur over time and are considered part of the character and uniqueness of each piece.
