I am a proud Papua New Guinean woman, with roots in Rabaul and Kavieng. 

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has always been a big part of my life and identity. Spending my childhood there shaped the way I see the world in a really lasting way. It taught me empathy, resilience, and a deep respect for people and the different realities they live. I also saw, early on, that life can hold both incredible beauty and real hardship at the same time. That awareness has stayed with me and continues to shape everything I do.

PNG is often misunderstood from the outside. But what I know from lived experience is a place full of culture, generosity, humour, and warmth ~ where people show up for each other and welcome you like family.

In PNG, the bilum is part of everyday life. They’re carried everywhere, used constantly, and woven into daily routines in a way that is both practical and deeply cultural.

Bilum Haus exists to celebrate that.

The craftsmanship, the women who weave them, and the culture behind something so simple yet so essential. It’s about making sure that work is valued, seen, and sustained ~ and that the people behind it are part of the story, not separate from it.

This is something deeply personal to me, but also something I believe deserves to be shared more widely: the beauty, strength, and creativity that exists in PNG.
